Thank You for Joining Aqua-Guard’s 2026 Open House

What if an oil sheen previously considered “unrecoverable” could actually be recovered?

A big thank you to everyone who attended our Open House at Aqua-Guard’s North Vancouver facility. It was a great opportunity to reconnect with long-standing clients, meet new contacts and demonstrate the innovation of our CFSH Sheen Recovery System.

Visitors saw the CFSH operating in our test tank filled with 5-micron thick diesel fuel and experienced firsthand how its Carbon-Fibre SuperHydrophobic recovery surface attracts oil while repelling water. The system is designed to mechanically recover ultra-thin oil sheen down to 0.08 microns with almost no water pickup—well below the 50-micron threshold traditionally considered unrecoverable.

Many attendees also had the opportunity to operate the CFSH themselves using the wired remote control. They were able to drive and manoeuvre the skimmer, control its twin thrusters and adjust the recovery rate while watching the system collect oil sheen from the surface of the test tank. This hands-on experience gave visitors a much better understanding of how easy the system is to operate and how it can be positioned directly over a spill source of oil or sheen.
The response was extremely positive. We had excellent discussions about using CFSH for spill response, watershed protection, First Nations Guardian programs, derelict and sunken vessels, vessel decontamination and other applications where conventional skimmers and sorbents are not effective.

We were pleased to welcome representatives from:
- Tsleil-Waututh Nation
- Musqueam Indian Band
- Coastal First Nations Great Bear Initiative
- Pacific Guardian Environmental Response
- Western Canada Marine Response Corporation
- Canadian Coast Guard — Sea Island Base

What Our Visitors Had to Say:

North Vancouver Chamber CEO Jonathan Mosley shared his reaction after seeing the technology in action:

“What if an oil sheen once considered ‘unrecoverable’ could actually be recovered?”  The North Vancouver Chamber described the CFSH as first-of-its-kind technology developed on the North Shore and highlighted its ability to mechanically recover ultra-thin oil sheen far below the level traditionally considered recoverable.

The Chamber also recognized Aqua-Guard as a valued member of its Marine and Waterfront Sector Roundtable and as the Innovation Award recipient in its Business Excellence Awards program.

Jonathan wrote that he was fascinated to see the technology operating and thanked Nigel Bennett, Cameron Janz and the Aqua-Guard team for demonstrating how local innovation can help advance environmental protection in Canada and around the world.

MLA Susie Chant also shared her thoughts after visiting:

“It was great to see firsthand the impressive equipment they supply across B.C., Canada and around the world to contain and clean up oil spills before they spread.” Susie highlighted the importance of Aqua-Guard’s work in protecting our waterways, wildlife and coastal communities, and thanked the team for the warm welcome and the work we are doing.

We especially valued the practical feedback from the experienced spill responders who operated the CFSH, examined the equipment closely and discussed how it could be used in real response situations. Several organizations are now considering potential purchases, demonstrations, partnerships and response-equipment packages centred around the CFSH system.

The Open House confirmed what we have been hearing from responders across Canada and internationally: oil sheen should no longer simply be deemed unrecoverable and left to contaminate global waterways and shorelines.

Our CFSH technology is helping close this long-standing response gap by providing a practical mechanical alternative to single-use sorbents—recovering the oil while significantly reducing water pickup, waste and the high cost of disposal.

Thank you again to everyone who attended, operated the equipment, shared their experience and supported what we are building. If you were unable to join us, please contact our team so can to arrange a separate visit and provide additional information on this break-through technology.
